What is community solar?

Community solar is a green energy option that brings the benefits of solar to renters, homeowners and other community members without the up-front costs of installing your own panels. Instead, solar panels are located at a nearby solar projects. You, your friends, your neighbors and local businesses can enroll with Greenday Community Solar to receive discounted solar credits on your utility bill and support renewable energy in your community!

Who is Greenday Community Solar?

Greenday Community Solar is a branch of GreenDay Finance, a company with nearly a decade of experience in advancing clean energy across the U.S. Our mission is to help residents and small to mid-sized businesses lower their electricity costs, support clean energy, and join the movement toward a more sustainable future, without having to install, own, or maintain solar panels. I enrolled with Gridwealth—why does it now say Greenday Community Solar?

The solar farm originally owned by Gridwealth was sold to Greenday Community Solar, a trusted partner of solar solutions allowing customers to participate in clean renewable energy while locking in savings to offset rising utility rates. This transition does not impact your current membership agreement or change your guaranteed 15% discount on solar credits applied to your Central Maine Power account.

Why are there limited spaces?

Spaces are limited based on the capacity of our solar projects. The solar energy produced is distributed among subscribers based on their average annual electricity usage. The good news is we have some space remaining on solar projects that are already live and new farms expected to go live in 2024!

How does the program work?

Enroll once, and your electricity account will be linked to one of our solar projects. It’s an easy way to save money on your electricity bills. Solar power goes from the solar project to the local utility grid, where it helps power your community with planet-friendly renewable energy. As a subscriber, you get a piece of the clean energy incentives in the form of solar credits that are applied to your electricity bill.

Do I keep Central Maine Power as my utility provider?

Yes! There is no change or disruption to your electricity service. Your utility provider will remain the same and continue to send a monthly bill.

The only difference is, as a Greenday Community Solar customer, you’ll start receiving solar credits on your Central Maine Power electricity bill. Then, you’ll receive a separate bill from Greenday Community Solar for the value of those solar credits, discounted by 15%.

Exact savings will vary depending on your energy usage each month.

Do I need to install solar panels?

No, you don’t! The solar panels are all located at Maine solar projects managed by Greenday Community Solar— not on your roof.

Who owns the solar farm that is supplying my net energy billing program bill credits?

Two companies, also called “Project Sponsors,” named Lewiston Solar II, LLC, and Hallowell Winthrop Solar LLC, part of the Greenday Community Solar family of companies, own the community solar farms, located in Lewiston and Hallowell, that generate the solar bill credits that would be applied to your bill. The company your account will be assigned to will be named on Attachment A of your contract with Greenday Community Solar Services, and in your attached NEB Disclosure Form. Both Project Sponsor companies are registered with the Maine Public Utility Commission as Project Sponsors.

How much can I save?

You will save 15% on the solar credits applied to your Central Maine Power electricity bill. That can really add up month after month, year after year! Exact savings will vary by month based on your energy usage.

Can I save twice as much by signing up with two solar companies?

No, Central Maine Power and the Maine Public Utilities Commission do not recommend joining multiple community solar programs. Each program allocates solar credits to your Central Maine Power account separately based on your household's total electricity usage, meaning you could end up paying for more solar credits than you can use if you're enrolled in multiple programs.

How will I see my guaranteed savings?

Each month, you’ll see solar credits applied toward reducing the cost of your Central Maine Power electricity bill. Then, you’ll receive a separate bill from Greenday Community Solar for the value of those solar credits, discounted by 15%. Despite receiving two separate bills, combining your monthly Central Maine Power electricity bill and your Greenday Community Solar bill ensures you always pay less than you would without community solar!

Why am I receiving two bills?

One bill will come from Central Maine Power and will show community solar credits. These credits represent the amount of electricity that was supplied to you by the Greenday Community Solar community solar project. Those credits are applied to your bill and reduce the amount you owe to Central Maine Power. The other bill will come from Greenday Community Solar for the electricity that was provided to you from the solar farm. Your 15% discount will be applied on the Greenday Community Solar bill, saving you money every month.

Where can I find my utility account number?

Your Central Maine Power utility account number can be found on your utility bill or by signing into your utility account online.

Are you an electricity supplier (ESCO)?

No, we are a community solar developer, which is not the same as a third-party retail energy supplier. Instead, Greenday Community Solar provides solar electricity to the local utility grid, and you get a credit for the value of the solar electricity allocated to your utility account.

Can I cancel if I change my mind after I start receiving solar credits on my electricity bill?

Yes, if you wish to cancel for any reason, simply give 30-days notice via mail or by emailing Care@HelloGreenday.com. It may take 1-2 months before you stop seeing solar credits on your Central Maine Power electricity bill due to the time it takes for the utility to disconnect your account from the solar farm. Rest assured that during this time you will still be enjoying your discount and saving money with community solar. You are responsible for paying Greenday Community Solar for any discounted solar credits you receive on your electricity bill. If you have any questions, call (207) 830-2052.
